LockDown Browser and Monitor for Students
OVERVIEW : SUMMARY
Respondus monitor works through the Lockdown Browser. There is no separate installation process. What differs is the preparation prior to the test taking. If students have the latest version of the Respondus Browser, you DO NOT have to install additional software. If you don't have the software, or think you may need to update your software, you can simply proceed through the steps to the assessment to reach a download link.
It should be noted that the login could present an issue because the Respondus Browser doesn't allow pop up windows. (A work around is mentioned below.)
GETTING TO THE DOWNLOAD LINK
Using your regular browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) sign into Canvas, navigate into your course and into the assessment that requires the LockDown Browser. Launch the quiz, select "Begin".
The "Assessment Loading" page will display. Now, the assessment will NOT load because you are NOT using the LockDown Browser. The page will stay here, but the "latest version" text is a link that will re-direct you to the download page.
Be sure to review the information on this page. There is a video overview, a link for MAC OS download, and the PC download. Select the big yellow button to download and install the application."
Launch the Application and navigate to your Canvas account, https://salve.instructure.com/.
Close all applications before launching the LockDown Browser. If not, you will be prompted to close conflicting applications.
When entering the address for CANVAS, you will be required to sign-in to Office 365.
However, there is a possibility that the process may hang because the browser will not allow a pop-up.
What you can do is SELECT BACK to to force other sign-in options.
BEGIN THE TEST IN THE LOCKDOWN BROWSER
Once Respondus is install, and you are signed-in, navigate to your assessment and BEGIN the assessment. The browser may display a message saying that it will re-launch browser with the quiz. This is normal.
THE PRE-TEST CEHCKLIST FOR RESPONDUS MONITOR
If your professor has setup the LockDown with the Monitor, then you will have to work through a checklist in setting up your assessment. The minimal requirement is to test the web camera and microphone before starting. The number of items will vary based-on the conditions established by your professor. Questions about these conditions should be addressed to to your professor.
